Classic Holiday Movies-image

The holiday season is here! And at Arrive LEX, we’re a fan of getting in the mood of the December holidays. In this week’s blog, we’ve got a short list of classic movies that we think members of our apartment community will enjoy watching and spending a December evening out of the cold.   Miracle on 34th Street “Six-year-old Susan Walker (Mara Wilson) is skeptical of the Christmas myth surrounding Santa Claus, a trait she perhaps learned from her mother, Dorey (Elizabeth Perkins). When tasked with hiring the Santa who will pose with kids at Macy's, Dorey enlists a man with the curious name of Kris Kringle (Richard Attenborough) who claims to be Santa himself. His assertions are met with scoffs and threats of institutionalization, but a young lawyer, along with Susan and Dorey, comes to his defense.”   It’s a Wonderful Life “James Stewart is at his finest as the distraught George Baily, a man about to commit suicide on Christmas Eve until he runs into the helpful, elderly Angel Clarence (Henry Travers). Lionel Barrymore is at his Snidely Whiplash best as avaricious banker Mr. Potter, a man who would foreclose on the whole town if he had the chance. Featuring Donna Reed as the love of George’s life, in the role that launched her to stardom, and a young, charming Gloria Grahame.”   Holiday Affair “Charming seasonal clerk Steve Mason (Robert Mitchum) catches beautiful Connie Ennis (Janet Leigh) in a fraudulent shopping scheme during the busy Christmas rush. But when he discovers that Ennis is a war widow and single mother, Mason takes pity on her and can't bring himself to turn her in. His supervisor takes notice and fires him on the spot. Mason befriends Connie and her young son, Timmy (Gordon Gebert), and may complicate her plans to marry boring nice guy Carl Davis (Wendell Corey).”   Do you have any classic movies you like to watch during the holidays? Let our Chicago, IL apartment community know of them by leaving a comment for us! Thanks for reading!

Give Thanks This November-image

The underlying attitude of Thanksgiving can be overshadowed by the delicious feast most people partake of. Expressing gratitude can be the best part of Thanksgiving, so we’ve decided to share with you some ways you can give thanks. This week’s Arrive LEX Blog post will include a short list of ways you can express your gratitude to the people who have had a profound effect on your life. Thank You Notes If you’re looking for a small gesture to express your gratitude, look no further than writing some thank you notes. These notes don’t have to be grand, but as you make them personal and concise, they will have a profound impact on the recipient. Address the recipient by name and thank them for a specific thing or write a positive note on there to make their day. Volunteer Sometimes the best way of expressing your gratitude is by giving back to the community and blessing the lives of others. Since it’s the month of Thanksgiving, there are opportunities to volunteer at food banks or soup kitchens. Volunteering is a great practice in reaching out to others that may not be as fortunate as you are and it can help you be more grateful for the small blessings in your life.   Give Small Gifts If writing small thank you notes or letters isn’t your preferred mode of giving thanks, you can show your friends or friends you care about them by giving them a small gift. If the idea behind your gift is thanks, we suggest keeping it small. Take the time to think of a gift the recipient may like and do your best to obtain it.  If at all possible, deliver the gift in person, and if you so desire, write a short note. Expressing gratitude can be difficult for some, but we hope these suggestions help. If you have any other suggestions, leave a comment for our Chicago, IL apartment community so we can try them out!
